At BlkArthouse, we constantly ask ourselves what it means to brand ourselves as Black artists and create or promote Black art. Our artists's works of art reflect their personal history, experiences, and perspectives--all of which are heavily influenced by their identity as Black individuals. To promote yourself, however, as a "black artist" raises the risk of being becoming a commoditized or cornered in the market. To better understand the experience and perspectives of our artists regarding their racial and professional identity, we asked the BlkArthouse artists: what does it mean to be a Black artist?
