Open Calls for Art/Artists

In order to increase the accessibility and representation of Black artists, while decreasing our own overhead, we did away with the traditional gallery set-up and started hosting pop-up art shows and exhibitions across the country. Check out our available open calls to submit artwork to join us for one of our events.

BlkArthouse Winter Exhibition

December 3, 2021 - December 27, 2021

The Essence of a Black Woman

This winter, we will be hosting our second-ever pop-up art exhibition, this time in Baltimore, MD, a cultural hub for Black art. The theme "Essence of a Black Woman" aims to celebrate the beauty and complexity of the Black woman and her collective stories. It will invite patrons to interact with and reflect upon the intersection of Blackness and femininity.

The exhibition will be both in-person and virtually, opening on December 3, 2021 and concluding December 27, 2021 (the second day of Kwanzaa). We will be selecting 10 artists for the exhibition, based upon the open call process detailed below.

The open call will consist of a general artist call, including:

  • Artist name;

  • Artist bio;

  • Description of what the artist believes is "the essence of a Black woman"

  • 3 sample artworks;

  • ARTIST CHOICE for artwork:

    • Create an original commission that falls within the theme of the exhibition

    • Submit an original artwork that falls within the theme of the exhibition
