Welcome to the Artist Exhibition Page!

The Essence of a Black Woman aims to highlight the underrepresented and misrepresented portrayal, experience, and stories of the Black Woman. Through our collective works of art and perspectives, we hope to provide a multi-faceted and dynamic exhibition that makes viewers challenge their world view and see the world through our eyes.

Venue:The Essence of a Black Woman exhibition takes place at the Motor House (photo above), a creative hub in the heart of Baltimore, Maryland. One of Baltimore’s most sustainable art and performance spaces supporting the artist community.

Guidelines
1. All artwork MUST be shipped via private carrier (UPS, FedEx, etc.), it MAY NOT be shipped via USPS. 

​2. All Artwork MUST be insured

*reminder that artists that need artwork to be stretched/framed upon arrival will need to pay for the cost of the stretching/framing. Failure to reimburse BlkArthouse before installation will result in termination of artist's participation in exhibition.

To participate in this exhibition, all artists must agree to and sign our exhibition agreement. In sum the agreement states: 

1. BlkArthouse retains a commission fee of 35%

2. Artists should incorporate the price of shipping into their prices. 

3. Artist are responsible for shipping the artwork to the designated location; BlkArthouse will cover shipping expenses for all pieces sold or pieces to be returned to the artist after the exhibition. 

4. If an artist requests that BlkArthouse handle stretching and framing, artist agrees to reimburse BlkArthouse the full amount.

5. Artists maintain intellectual property over artwork

It takes two to tango..and sell art. BlkArthouse aims to do a number of things to ensure that this exhibition is a success and sell artwork, including outreach to local news stations, newspapers, and radio stations, social media marketing, and paid advertising. 

In order to optimize your chance of success in selling your artwork, however, you should also be marketing your participation in the exhibition and your artwork. Here are a few ways to market and prepare yourself for the exhibition: 

Announce yourself as a selected artist on social media. Sample is below. Please don't announce your particular art piece for the exhibition until after the opening night.

Include a link to the event page and/or exhibition in your bio.


Join Us on Tuesdays for our Instagram Lives. Every Tuesday, Ms. Joli goes Live on Instagram to discuss all things Black art and artists. During the coming months, we hope to feature a number of artists from the exhibition. If you're interested in joining us, contact msjoli@blkarthouse.com. 

Tell your friends to RSVP, share, and engage: We're all beholden to the algorithm. We're able to reach more networks and communities the more our posts and events are shared and liked. 

Attend the events: The best way to garner connection with your artwork is to talk about it in person with collectors! We're hosting events that will provide you the opportunity to directly interact with people who may be interested in purchasing your work. That also means brushing up on your artwork elevator pitches!
